The Social Scoop - Week 33

15 August 2025 - Sterre Lucas

Welcome to The Social Scoop! Your go-to bi-weekly update on all things social media: brand new features, key trends and platform shifts, all in one place.

Instagram has shared an overview of when to use different post types 📊

Instagram has shared insights on which types of posts work best depending on your goal. Want to reach new audiences? Focus on Reels and carousels. Looking to engage your current followers? Carousels, single posts, and stories perform best. And if you want to nurture your most loyal fans, Lives and Channels are the way to go.

Instagram gets more social with reposts, Friends feed, and interactive map 📲

Instagram is rolling out three new features to make the platform feel more personal. You can now repost other people’s Reels and feed posts directly to your own feed, with full credit to the original creator. The new Friends tab in Reels shows what your friends are liking, commenting on, or sharing. And with the new Instagram Map, you can (optionally) share your location with friends and see where they’ve been, complete with related Reels and Stories.

Instagram adds smarter metrics for posts, carousels, and audience growth 🔍

Instagram is giving creators and brands deeper insight into what works. You can now see exactly when viewers liked a Reel and which image in a carousel drove the most engagement (making it easier to pinpoint the best visuals). The update also includes post-level demographics and shows which content brings in the most new followers.

YouTube Makes a Strong Comeback with a Wave of New Features 🌊

Since the start of this year, YouTube has made a big comeback as the platform to watch. A steady flow of updates is rolling out, from new collaboration features and improved search tools to extra options for creators to grow their reach. With smart integrations for Shorts, podcasts, and livestreams, YouTube is once again positioning itself as the place where all forms of content come together, giving both viewers and creators plenty to benefit from.

YouTube Experiments With New Display of Collaborators on Clips 🤝

YouTube is testing a new feature that lets creators showcase collaborations directly in the video title, complete with channel avatars and clickable names. Similar to Instagram and TikTok, this makes all participating creators visible, boosting reach and attracting new followers for everyone involved. The update makes it easier than ever to promote partnerships and drive viewers to collaborator channels, a logical step that’s likely to roll out to all users soon.
