Knock knock LinkedIn : Unveiling New Job Opportunities through X
X takes a step further in becoming the “everything app” by introducing “Matchmaking”.
The “everything app”
This summer, X started rolling out jobs for verified accounts in the app, allowing companies to post jobs directly to their profiles. In the meanwhile, the platform is also working on “Matchmaking.” Not a dating app (yet), but a new element to help users find relevant job opportunities. X News Daily’s post identifies a dedicated profile for this purpose : XHiring.
The algorithm
We all know LinkedIn; the platform for professional connections and job postings. Whereas job recommendations on LinkedIn are based on job searches, job alerts, profile, and activity on the platform itself, X relies on interaction history, posted content, and location. An algorithm based on interests has already been a great success on multiple social media platforms for entertainment purposes. Will this also be the case for job matching on X?
Uncertainty about future success
While enthusiasm is bubbling up in the comment section of X News Daily’s post, it’s unclear whether the implementation of Matchmaking will truly be effective. Its success relies on what people do on the platform. Do they use it a lot for work-related things? In other words, is X being fed with enough valuable input? Research by Social Shepherd shows that 14% of users in the U.S. use the platform to strengthen their professional network. Is this enough to keep Matchmaking going?
