YouTube Shorts meets TikTok: These are the latest tools from YouTube

24 July 2023 - Annette Aniba

Hooray for creators! YouTube is introducing exciting new tools for Short, aiming to create an even stronger connection among users.

YouTube’s Creative Toolbox

Not only on TikTok and Instagram, but now also on Shorts you can use effects, stickers, go live, and the well-known Collab function. This feature might sound familiar, as it’s essentially a direct copy of TikTok, allowing you to record side-by-side format videos with another YouTube or Shorts video. Moreover, the platform is becoming more interactive, enhancing content engagement. Creators can now use the Q&A sticker to ask their audience questions and receive reactions and comments. Again, this is a feature we’ve already seen on other channels.

Create, inspire, and maximize your content

Over the coming weeks, these features will be rolled out to all creators on iOS, followed by Android. YouTube states that these new features are intended to make creating YouTube Shorts easier, inspire creators even more, and foster stronger connections among them.

It’s interesting to see YouTube, Meta, and TikTok competing with each other. Are they trying to keep their creators close while also stealing from other platforms? Is creating new features enough, or do platforms need to do more to become or remain the ‘best’ and ‘most enjoyable’? We’re curious to see how these platforms will try to differentiate themselves from each other in the future.
