There is a new app on the block! Lemon8 is also called the baby of Pinterest and Instagram.

So, what is Lemon8? Lemon8 is a social networking app that allows users to connect with friends and family. Is it similar to Instagram, Pinterest or TikTok? Definitely! But two big differences: 1: you don’t have vertical scrolling. And 2: you can filter interests. Nice!

Like Tiktok, Lemon8 also has a “following” and “for you” page, but this is where the similarities end. Users can switch between creators and posts based on their interests. But perhaps the most recognisable feature of Lemon8 is the Canva-like graphics in the posts. Creators often add text over photos and tag affiliate links.

Aesthetic content, again?

So on Lemon8, you can discover beautiful, authentic and diverse content. But, weren’t we just done with that? Instagram is notorious for having all the pretty pictures staged, and this has caused some users to say the app goodbye. But, Lemon8 is actually bringing this all back. Are we once again making a switch in the type of content users like to see?

Will it fail or will it succeed?

Currently, Lemon8 is one of the most popular downloads in the app store (unfortunately not yet available in the Netherlands). This could mean that the app could become an interesting new player in the social landscape. Or will Lemon8 briefly be a hype and then, like BeReal and ClubHouse, disappear again? Time will tell!
