The #trendprediction for 2023

12 December 2022 - Juliette Bakker

It doesn’t get more #trending than this. In fact, this week we are going to talk about the social media predictions of 2023! The end of 2022 is almost upon us, and the social media landscape continues to change constantly. Therefore, understanding what’s coming in 2023 is crucial in order to squeeze the most out of your social media channels.

Pinterest and Instagram have already shared their trend predictions with the world. Almost all of the predicted trends for 2023 may probably not come as a shock to you. In fact, most of the emerging trends we have already encountered in last year’s predictions. The difference is just that the importance of change is now unparalleled.

55% of the time people spend social media, they are active on TikTok. Yes, you read that right : 55%. People spend about 82 minutes a day on the platform. And this is no accident. Short form video content is the new norm and this is not only noticeable on TikTok.

People also spend a lot of their time on Instagram and Youtube. Especially now that these platforms have both introduced short form videos as an attempt to keep up with the extremely popular entertainment platform.

Meanwhile, TikTok also no longer calls itself a social media platform, but an entertainment platform. But why? In 2023, creatorship becomes essential. It’s no longer just about influencers with a large reach, but content from creators who come from your target audience. The new year will be all about entertaining your audience – and will focus less and less on building a community. The content you create/post will reach not only the people who follow you, but also people who the algorithm thinks are within your target audience.

Yet another trend we – and I’m sure you also – have noticed, is that engagement and numbers of followers have gone old school. This is mainly due to the change in algorithms. In The Quest Pro interview, Mark Zuckenberg tells us that algorithms are just now getting smart enough to look at -and show you content that you are actually interested in. Therefore, next year it will be even more important than ever before to create relevant and engaging content for your audience!

2023 will be a year full of entertainment but it is also important to remember that social media is having a major impact on buying behavior, and TikTok is at the forefront of this. It is no surprise that more than half of marketers using TikTok plan to increase their investment in 2023. In the United States this year, there was a shortage of feta cheese due to a recipe that had gone viral. You hear it, this is the time to think big in 2023!

Take the plunge & get creative!
