TikTok Sell-Off Deadline Extended (Again) ⏳

The clock’s still ticking for TikTok in the U.S. – but now a little slower. President Trump has officially granted a 75-day extension for the sell-off deadline, after failing to finalize the deal on April 4th. The agreement to keep TikTok operational in the U.S. is proving more complex than expected, giving stakeholders some extra time to iron out the details. Will the deal finally be ready after this extension? We’ll have to wait and see.

TikTok Shopping expands in Europe 🛍️

TikTok is growing its e-commerce presence in Europe, with plans to roll out TikTok Shop tools to businesses in France, Germany, and Italy. Shopping features are already active with select retailers in Spain, and the platform’s presence in the European market has been steadily growing in recent months. With the ongoing uncertainty around the U.S. sell-off deadline, expanding into more global markets is a strategic move. By strengthening its presence in Europe, TikTok aims to boost in-app sales through seamless in-stream shopping experiences.

Instagram adds ‘Re-Posts’ to boost content 🔁

Instagram is introducing a ‘Re-Post’ feature, allowing users to reshare content directly into their followers’ feeds, along with personalized text. This update builds on past experiments, giving users more ways to engage and share posts, similar to retweeting on Twitter and reposting on TikTok. While this increases visibility, it also raises questions about the growing amount of AI-recommended and reshared content in users’ feeds, potentially impacting the algorithm’s original purpose of prioritizing posts from accounts users follow.
