Social explosion after WhatsApp outage

31 October 2022 - Selma Maroufi

Help! Not being able to send messages, you cannot reach your friends and #Whatsappdown went trending on Twitter: you were not the only one affected by the WhatsApp breakdown on Thursday, October 25. Very inconvenient for users, of course, but for brands it was the perfect moment to react. We sum up the best social catch-ups of last Tuesday.

1. Maybe we better switch to a wooden phone

First off, retailer Hema responded to the sudden event. They showed that a wooden phone worked better than their smartphone at the time. After all, it never malfunctions.

2. More reach in the air

Even airline RyanAir did not remain silent and let people post their WhatsApp message, which they could not send because of the outage, under their Tweet and from that came the funniest responses.

3. Radio DJ hacks WhatsApp

Radio DJ Ruud de Wild of NPO Radio 2 jokes on his socials that he caused the WhatsApp breakdown. Now that’s what we call tuning in to the actuality!

4. Soccer fans irritated in the stands

The Dutch talk show ‘Vandaag Inside’ also addressed the sensation. They show through a GIF that you are not the only one irritated by the WhatsApp glitch, because even in the stands they are affected by it.

5. Place your McDonalds order through Twitter

Twitter welcomes all users to their platform now that WhatsApp is unavailable and McDonalds is just more than happy to join the conversation. For orders at McDonalds, you’ve come to the right place. However, that order gets bigger than imagined: ‘Can I have 60 million nuggets for all my fellow Twitterers please?’.

6. Kermit the frog is not affected by the breakdown

Luckily, the WhatsApp breakdown didn’t stress everyone out. After all, if you normally get limited messages in general, you don’t miss anything, right?
