Photo or video? You tell me!
Are you still loyal to Instagram or has TikTok stolen your heart?
Of course, it can’t have escaped your notice that video is the trend of the past year on Social and we see fewer and fewer photos passing by on our timeline!
TikTok has turned the social landscape upside down over the past few years and made Reels on Instagram trending as well. Of course, we all know Instagram for the beautiful and inspiring pictures of friends and acquaintances. This hasn’t been what it used to be for a while now, as recently Instagram has also been changing to an inspirational video format that may secretly look a lot like TikTok.
Yet now comes a rebuttal from Instagram in which the Chief of Instagram claims that he sees a comeback in posting photos.
Mosseri claims:
“I think we were overfocused on video in 2022 and pushed ranking too far, and basically showed too many videos and not enough photos. We’ve since balanced, so things like how often someone likes photos versus videos, and how often someone comments on photos versus videos, are roughly equal, which is a good sign that things are balanced.”
Mosseri believes it is important that photos get an equal share as videos. It is clear that Instagram and TikTok are starting to look more and more alike, however, Mosseri states that he wants to create a clear difference between the two platforms, ensuring that Instagram’s authenticity is not lost.
Will photos once again compete with video, what do you think?
