Receiving messages and voice memos from your favorite influencer or creator? You can! Mark Zuckerberg announced this week with his own “Meta Channel 📢” that Instagram will soon introduce broadcast channels on Meta. Thanks to this tool, creators can connect directly with their audience and form deeper connections with their community. Sounds familiar? Also possible! This feature previously existed through Telegram.
One-way
With broadcast channels, creators can keep their followers informed informally and quickly. They can share text, photos, videos and voice memes to showcase their latest updates and behind-the-scenes moments. In addition, they can even create polls to collect feedback from their fans. Sending something back? Unfortunately, that’s not possible. Only the admin can send messages. Followers can only respond to polls and via emojis.
Balance is key
The impact of broadcast channels on Meta extends beyond creators. Companies and brands can also use this feature to further engage their community. It allows them to communicate with their audience even more directly and on a larger scale. We at Dorst & Lesser think it’s a great addition to create engagement and interaction. However, it is essential to strike the right balance. For instance, you want to avoid coming across as overwhelming and compelling as a brand. Or maybe a message from your BFF is always something good, or not ;)?
