Can you handle it?
“Can you handle it?” YouTube now allows you to use unique identifiers. So-called handles.
Twitter, Facebook and Instagram: for years pretty much every social platform has allowed you to use the well-known “@” when you want to tag someone. YouTube can no longer be left behind in this and is now introducing the @-handle. “It will soon be easier and faster to mention each other in comments, community posts, video descriptions and more,” YouTube claims. For many, Youtube is not only a platform to upload a video. YouTube is increasingly seen as a community, and the handles will help reinforce the community feel.
1. Maybe we better switch to a wooden phone
First off, retailer Hema responded to the sudden event. They showed that a wooden phone worked better than their smartphone at the time. After all, it never malfunctions.
YouTube prioritizes the most active accounts who have a lot of followers to choose their handle. Good to act fast, because if a content creator has a handle to match the account/brand, it will make finding the channel easier.
What if you don’t change your handle before November 14th? You will be assigned a handle by YouTube itself. Each Youtuber will have a unique handle, similar to a user’s current account name. Not only will a handle be added, but you will also receive a unique URL which you can use to redirect your target audience easily to your YouTube channel. The handles will work for YouTube videos as well as shorts.
Will this grow YouTube to an even bigger platform? The future will tell, but definitely one to keep an eye on!
