And the Oscar goes to... Will Smith

1 April 2022 - Niels Verhoeven

On March 28, Hollywood put their most beautiful three-piece suits and dazzling dresses on as the Oscars were awarded for the 94th time. You must have read about it when you opened your Twitter or Instagram on Monday morning. Because during the Best Documentary award ceremony, comedian Chris rock made a joke at the expense of Will Smith’s wife. Will marched on stage and ‘bitch-slapped’ him.

Social memes incoming.

Do you also hate busy shopping streets and tight fitting rooms, but do you like to try on things before you buy them? Augmented Reality (AR) is here to the rescue! @kyliecosmetics for instance, created a filter to test the perfect shade of lipstick and with @gucci’s filter you can try on new shoes. But you can also take it a step further like H&M, who announced an entire online store to visit in the metaverse:

To newsjack or not to newsjack?

Brands such as Fashion Nova and Bol.com created newsjacking posts, but opinions are divided about this as well on the internet. After all, can a brand use a moment of violence to promote their products and/or to get in touch with their customers? In any case, after the Oscar incident, the comedian’s show was promoted without any effort because ticket sales skyrocketed. One of the largest ticket sellers in the US, TickPick, announced that more tickets have been sold since the Oscars incident than in the entire month before. Maybe that will ease the pain a little bit.
